Single, Dual or Quad Motor Recliner Chairs?
When discussing the number of motors in a chair the term single motor recliner chair, dual motor recliner chair is used. There are many differences between these models but to summarise in brief terms
Single Motor Riser Recliners: These models have a single motor. When reclining first the leg section rises up and then the back section reclines. The rise mechanism is unaffected.
Dual Motor Riser Recliners: The foot and back reclining mechanisms can be individually controlled. It is also possible to partially recline the back when lifting the chair if needed
Quad Motor Riser Recliners: These chairs perform all the actions of the dual motor riser chairs but also have adjustable lumbar support and a motion headrest (movement above the shoulders). These additional features enhance your comfort allowing you to fine tune your riser recliner chair into the most comfortable positions possible.

FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions About Mobility Furniture
| What is a riser recliner chair? | A riser recliner chair is a specially designed armchair that gently lifts and tilts forward to help you sit down and stand up more easily. Many models also recline into comfortable resting positions, making them ideal for relaxing, reading, or watching television. Modern riser recliners are designed to look stylish and homely while also providing extra support and comfort. |
| Are riser recliner chairs only for elderly people? | Not at all. Many customers choose mobility furniture because of arthritis, back pain, reduced mobility, recovering from surgery, or simply to make everyday life more comfortable. Riser recliners can help people maintain independence and reduce strain on joints and muscles. Today’s mobility furniture is available in a wide range of modern fabrics, colours, and styles, meaning you do not have to compromise on appearance. |
| Will mobility furniture look too “medical” in my home? | This is one of the most common concerns we hear - and many customers are pleasantly surprised when they see modern mobility furniture in person. Many riser recliners and adjustable beds are designed to blend naturally into a living room or bedroom, with stylish fabrics, soft cushions, and contemporary designs that look just like traditional furniture. The focus is on comfort, support, and helping you feel more confident at home without making your room feel clinical. |
| What is the difference between single motor and dual motor riser recliners? | Single motor riser recliners move the footrest and backrest together in one smooth motion. Dual motor riser recliners allow the backrest and footrest to move independently, giving you more flexibility and helping you find the exact position that feels most comfortable. Our team can explain the differences and help you choose the option that best suits your comfort and mobility needs. |
| Can I try a riser recliner before buying? | Yes - we strongly recommend trying different models where possible. Comfort, support, and chair sizing can vary from person to person, so visiting our showroom allows you to compare styles and find the chair that feels right for you. We also offer selected home demonstration visits in local areas for customers who may find travelling difficult. |
| Do adjustable beds help with back pain or circulation? | Many customers find adjustable beds helpful for improving comfort, easing pressure on joints, reducing swelling in the legs, and finding a more supportive sleeping position. Being able to slightly raise your head or legs can also help some people with circulation, reflux, snoring, or general comfort while resting in bed. Everyone’s needs are different, so we are always happy to discuss suitable options in-store. |
| Can I buy mobility furniture VAT free? | If you have a long-term illness or disability and the furniture is for your personal use, you may qualify for VAT exemption on selected mobility furniture products. Our team can explain how this works and help guide you through the simple declaration process. |
| Do you offer delivery and setup? | Yes - we offer free local delivery and full setup on all our mobility furniture products. We understand that mobility furniture can sometimes feel daunting to purchase online, so our team can position the furniture, demonstrate how it works, and answer any questions during delivery. |
| How do I know what size riser recliner I need? | Choosing the correct size is extremely important for both comfort and support. A chair that is too large or too small may not provide the best sitting position or pressure support. We can help measure for seat height, seat depth, and overall chair fit to ensure you feel properly supported and comfortable. |
| Why choose Coast Road Furniture for mobility furniture? | We understand that buying mobility furniture is often an important and sometimes emotional decision.
