What is a Wilton Carpet?
A Wilton carpet is a type of woven carpet in which the pile yarn and backing are woven together to create a strong, stable construction. The weaving process can produce particularly crisp patterns and a dense finish, which is why Wilton construction is commonly used for patterned carpets as well as hard-wearing plain designs.
Modern Wilton carpets are available in several fibres. Our collection includes both wool-rich Wilton carpets and practical polypropylene Wiltons, giving you a choice between traditional natural-fibre luxury and easy-care synthetic options.
Patterned and Traditional Wilton Carpets
Wilton construction is particularly well suited to patterned carpet. Some ranges are also suitable for heavier-use or commercial environments.
Wool or Polypropylene Wilton Carpet?
There isn't one single fibre used in a Wilton carpet. Wool-rich ranges provide natural warmth, comfort and resilience, while polypropylene Wiltons can offer excellent stain resistance, durability and easier cleaning at a lower price. We stock examples of both, so the best choice will depend on the room, household and budget.

What Underlay Should You Use with Wilton Carpet?
The appropriate underlay depends on the specification of the individual carpet and installation. Woven carpets generally benefit from a supportive, good-quality underlay rather than simply choosing the softest option available. Felt underlays are a traditional and highly compatible option for Wilton carpets, particularly for residential and heritage installations. Made from dense, recycled fibres (often wool or mixed textile felt) they provide a firm yet cushioned base that supports the structured nature of woven Wilton construction.
