Are Saxony Carpets the same as Plush Carpets?

Saxony and plush carpets are similar but not exactly the same:

Saxony Carpet

  • Definition: A type of cut pile carpet with fibres that are longer and twisted, giving a soft, elegant appearance.
  • Texture: Smooth and velvety, but with visible tracking (footprints and vacuum marks).
  • Feel: Soft underfoot; has a luxurious look.
  • Types: Can be straight Saxony (fibres stand up in the same direction, more formal) or textured Saxony (fibres twisted in different directions, more casual and hides marks better).

Plush Carpets

  • Definition: Sometimes referred to as a velvet pile carpet. The fibres are sheared to the same height for a very dense, even surface.
  • Texture: Even softer and more uniform than Saxony; even more prone to showing footprints.
  • Feel: Extremely soft and cushiony - considered the most luxurious feel.
  • Finish: Very formal, elegant, often used in high-end settings or bedrooms.
